A side-looking NMR logging tool incorporates a permanent magnet arrangement (1) having a magnetization direction oriented towards a side of the tool and a dipole RF antenna (10) displaced towards the front of the tool. The magnetic arrangement produces a shaped region of investigation in front of the tool wherein the magnetic field has a uniform field strength and the RF field has a uniform field strength in a direction orthogonal to the static field. The shaping of the static field is accomplished by the magnet arrangement comprising a plurality of magnets (8) having parallel magnetization or by a single shaped magnet (8). The antenna arrangement includes gapped core made of non-ferritic soft material for increasing antenna efficiency. The magnet arrangement also reduces ringing in the core and the antenna. An optional RF shield is used to reduce NMR signals from borehole fluids.
L'invention concerne un outil de diagraphie par résonance magnétique nucléaire à orientation latérale, lequel comprend un agencement permanent d'aimants (1) possédant une direction de magnétisation orientée en direction d'un côté de l'outil et une antenne RF dipôle (10) déplacée en direction de la partie avant de l'outil. L'agencement d'aimants crée une zone profilée d'investigation dans la partie avant de l'outil, le champ magnétique présentant une intensité uniforme de champ et le champ RF présentant une intensité uniforme de champ dans un sens orthogonal par rapport au champ statique. La configuration du champ statique est réalisée par l'agencement d'aimants renfermant une pluralité d'aimants (8) possédant une magnétisation parallèle ou par un aimant profilé unique (8). L'agencement de l'antenne comprend une âme percée et conçue dans un matériau souple non ferritique permettant d'accroître l'efficacité de l'antenne. L'agencement d'aimants permet également de réduire les oscillations dans l'âme et l'antenne. Une protection RF facultative est utilisée en vue de diminuer les signaux de résonance magnétique nucléaire provenant de fluides du forage.
