The invention relates to a side strut 5 for a lower steering arm of a tractor. The side strut 5 comprises a single-action hydraulic cylinder and a setting unit with a hollow cylinder 17 and a setting element 20 adjustable therein. The setting element 20 comprises a threaded bore 30 in which there is positioned a threaded rod 32. The hydraulic cylinder is provided with the first attaching means 6 for the purpose of connecting a tractor, and the threaded rod 32 is provided with the second attaching means 7 for the purpose of connecting a lower steering arm. In the fully moved-out position of the hydraulic cylinder, the setting element 20 is rotatable by means of the actuating lever 33, so that, accordingly, the threaded rod 32 moves in and out. To prevent any rotation, there is provided a first holding element 36 which the actuating lever 33 can be made to engage when in the position of rest. There is further provided a second holding element 37 which ensures that, in those cases where the hydraulic cylinder is in a position other than the fully moved-out position, the actuating lever 33 is held in such a way that a rotational movement of the setting element 20 relative to the hollow cylinder - which rotational movement would effect a change in the length setting - cannot take place.
