Disclosed is a splint (10) or over-tube device for use in keeping the sigmoid colon in a straightened position during endoscopy to facilitate advancement of the colonoscope or other types of medical endoscopes to the cecum. This device utilizes a distal seal (22) made from a sponge-like material to close off the space between the endoscope and the splint (10) at the distal end of the splint (10) to prevent perforation of the colon. The distal seal (22) can be tapered to further facilitate passage of the splint (10) through the colon and minimize the likelihood of colon perforations. A hydrophilic lubricating substance is utilized to minimize friction between the endoscope and the splint (10). A second sealing member (32) is utilized at the proximal end of the splint (10) to prevent loss of fluids from the splint (10), and to guide the endoscope through the splint (10). An injection port (60) is provided to allow the endoscope operator to inject fluid to lubricate the distal seal (22), to enlarge the colon in advance of the splint (10), and to clear a path through the colon for the splint.
La présente invention concerne un passe-endoscope (10) permettant de maintenir droit le colon sigmoïde pendant une endoscopie facilitant ainsi la progression du coloscope ou d'endoscopes médicaux d'autres types jusqu'au caecum. Ce dispositif utilise un joint étanche distal (22) fait de matériau spongieux venant fermer l'espace libre entre l'endoscope et le passe-endoscope (10) au niveau de son extrémité distale de façon à éviter la perforation du colon. Le joint étanche distal (22) peut être de forme conique ou tronconique pour faciliter encore plus la progression du passe-endoscope (10) dans le colon et pour éviter autant que possible la perforation du colon. Une substance hydrophile lubrifiante vient minimiser le frottement entre l'endoscope et le passe-endoscope (10). Un second joint étanche (32) monté à l'extrémité proximale du passe-endoscope (10) permet, d'une part d'empêcher les pertes du fluide contenu dans le passe-endoscope (10), et d'autre part de guider l'introduction de l'endoscope dans le passe-endoscope (10). Un orifice d'injection (60) vient permettre au manipulateur de l'endoscope, d'injecter le fluide servant à lubrifier le joint distal (22), à écarter le colon pour la progression du passe-endoscope (10), et à dégager le passage du passe-endoscope (10) dans le colon.
