A telecommunications system is formed from a single mode optical fibre carrying Wave Division Multiplex (WDM) traffic, there being a transmission fibre coupler arranged to couple signals from channels to be added to the single mode optical fibre. There are also coupling means to connect the channels carrying the signals to be added to the input of an optical amplifier, the output of the amplifier being connected in series to the transmission fibre coupler by a switchable multiband band-stop filter arranged to pass only signals having the wavelength of a signal or signals to be added to the WDM traffic. The switchable multiband band-stop filter may be a fibre Bragg filter, a selectable stack of filters or an assembly of bleachable filters. A switchable multiband filter is formed from a stack of layers of a semiconductor bleachable medium whereby the bleaching threshold is that of each single layer and the attenuation is the sum of the transmissions through all the layers comprising the stack.
L'invention concerne un système de télécommunications formé à partir d'une fibre optique monomodale transportant un trafic de multiplexage par division d'onde (WDM), un coupleur de fibre de transmission étant conçu pour coupler des signaux provenant de canaux à ajouter à la fibre optique monomodale. Le système comprend également des moyens de couplage permettant de relier les canaux porteurs des signaux à ajouter à l'entrée d'un amplificateur optique, la sortie de l'amplificateur étant reliée en série au coupleur de fibre de transmission par un filtre d'arrêt de bande multibande pouvant être commuté, conçu pour faire passer seulement des signaux possédant la longueur d'ondes d'un signal ou de signaux à ajouter au trafic WDM. Ce filtre peut être un filtre de Bragg de fibre, un empilement de filtres pouvant être sélectionné ou un assemblage de filtres pouvant être éclaircis. Un filtre multibande pouvant être commuté est formé à partir d'un empilement de couches d'un milieu semi-conducteur pouvant être éclairci, le seuil d'éclaircissement étant celui de chaque couche unique et l'atténuation étant la somme des transmissions à travers toutes les couches de l'empilement.
