ABSTRACT The present metering signal generator generates bursts of 12 or 16 kHz sine waves, the bursts having gradually varying edges in order not to produce audible clicks. Due to offset of the amplifiers producing these edges the amplitude of the signal in the interburst time intervals may be relatively high and give rise to noise. This amplitude is therefore first made high so that it can be detected and then limited to a wanted value. The invention also describes a comparator circuit and a modulator circuit used in the signal generator.
