ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fast-scanning infra-red Fourier transform spectrometer in which the interferogram signal processing circuitry includes an analog-to-digital converter followed by a numerical filter. The numerical filter is such that the sampling interval can be significantly increased, that is the number of samples reduced, without loss of essential information. Further the digitized signal is independent of variations in the mirror scanning speed and the reduced set of samples may be made such that one sample occurs at precisely the "zero path difference position".
