SIGNAL PROCESSING CIRCUIT IN A COLOUR VIDEO SIGNAL RECORDING AND/OR REPRODUCING APPARATUS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A signal processing circuit is used in a colour video signal recording and/or reproducing apparatus comprising: frequency conversion means for converting the frequency of a carrier chrominance signal separated from an input colour video signal to a low frequency band and/or for converting the frequency of the carrier chrominance signal separated from a reproduced video signal and converted to the low frequency band, to an original frequency band; and rotating heads for recording and/or reproducing a video signal including the converted carrier chrominance signal on and/or from parallel adjacent tracks on recording medium. The signal processing circuit comprises: means for determining timings of phase shifting for every successive horizontal scanning period in response to a supplied horizontal synchronizing signal separated from the video signal; means for determining directions of phase shifting in response to a supplied signal responsive to every scanning period of the rotating heads on each track on the recording medium; means for forming a signal of frequency 4fs; and means, responsive to the supplied signal of frequency 4fs and cooperative with the means for determining the timing of phase shifting and the means for determining the direction of phase shifting, for forming a signal having a frequency fs and having the phase which shifts by 90 degrees of angle for every successive horizontal scanning period and of which phase shifting direction is inverted alternately for every successive scanning period of the rotating heads on each track, said formed signal of frequency fs being utilized for a frequency conversion signal to be supplied to the frequency conversion means.
