A datasieve typically used for a method of pulse analysis applied to a signal conglomerate to remove unwanted signals, for example to enable the output to be used for object identification in an image analyser, wherein the datasieve includes a succession of ordinal value filters (130, 132, 134) for sampling the signal conglomerate with window sizes increasing from N (less than M) up to M, each filter being fed with a signal derived from the output of the previous filter, bandpass filter outputs representing granularities being formed by subtracting the outputs of successive filters, a predetermined signal subset of the granularities being selected and the subject granularities being added together to produce the required output signal.
