ABSTRACT A signal processing system for use in an analogue tomographic system wherein a first operation whereby elements of the signal profiles obtained by successively irradiating a cross-sectional area of an object by means of an outfanning (diverging) beam of penetrating radiation from a plur- ality of different directions, are sampled in such a manner so as to yield continuous signal profiles representative of beams of parallel rays successively irradiating said cross-sectional area from a plurality of different directions, and a second operation whereby the parallel signal profile information as obtained by said first operation is subjected to a deconvolution process by means of an optical spatial filtering device, these two operations being carried out simultaneously in a single step.
