Methods and apparatus for detecting objects are disclosed. In one embodiment of the invention, a person entering a secured or "Safe Zone TM" is illuminated with low-power polarized radio waves. Differently polarized waves which are reflected back from the person are collected and measured. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, concealed weapons are detected by calculating the difference of a pair of differences (Delta A and B) of different polarized reflected energy (upper and lower curves in the two graphs) in the time domain, and by using signal processing methods and apparatus to improve the reliability of the detection process. Alternative embodiments of the invention may be used to detect a wide variety of objects other than concealed firearms. The invention may be used for inventory control or to thwart shoplifting.
L'invention concerne des procédés et des dispositifs de détection d'objets. Dans un mode de réalisation de l'invention, une personne pénétrant dans une zone sécurisée ou "Safe Zone<TM>" est illuminée par des ondes radio polarisées faible puissance. Des ondes diversement polarisées sont réfléchies vers la personne puis collectées et mesurées. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré de l'invention, des armes dissimulées sont détectées par calcul de la différence de deux différences entre les niveaux d'une énergie différente réfléchie et polarisée dans le domaine temps, et à l'aide des procédés et des dispositifs de traitement de signaux, de manière à améliorer la fiabilité du processus de détection. Des modes de réalisations alternatifs peuvent être utilisés pour détecter une large gamme d'objets autres que des armes à feu dissimulées. Les procédés et le dispositif décrits dans la présente invention peuvent être utilisés pour la gestion des stocks ou pour la prévention du vol à l'étalage.
