SILENT EXTENSION-TELEPHONE CALL PICKUP DEVICE (or SILENT PHONE PICKUP DEVICE) ABSTRACT This invention relates to an electronic device that automatically picks up an incoming call before any telephone on the same line can begin to ring. This simple device plugs into any telephone extension jack, and the telephone is in turn plugged into the device. When there is an incoming call, the device will automatically pick up the call and sound a buzzer. The device is transparent to the normal operation of the phone when not enabled. A device like this is very useful when there are multiple telephone extensions in the house, and a particular occupant expects a call late at night. The alternative of going around the house to turn off the ringers on all the other telephone extensions would be cumbersome. This device also has potential commercial applications. It can, for example, allow a utility to call up its meter connected to the customer's telephone line to remotely extract readings without ringing the customer's telephones.
