ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Silicate fillers are provided suitable for the production of silicate-filled polyolefin resin composites which exhibit improved mechanical properties. The silicate filler comprises particles of silane-free silicate filler, preferably mica, having a coating thereon of one or more chlorinated aliphatic compounds. The chlorinated aliphatic compounds have a molecular weight of about 250 to 10,000 and contain from 5 to 60% chlorine by weight.
