1029 SILICON STEEL AND PROCESSING THEREFORE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for producing grain oriented electromagnetic silicon steel. The process includes the steps of: preparing a melt of silicon steel having, by weight, from 2.5 to 4.0% silicon; casting the steel; hot rolling the steel; cold rolling the steel; decarburizing the steel; applying a substantially non-reactive aluminum hydroxide coating to the steel; and final texture annealing the steel. The annealed steel being characterized by a substantially uniform metallic surface.
