RD-19,575 SILICONE MARCOMERS AND THERMOPLASTIC FLAME RETARDANT SILICON-POLYPHENYLENE ETHER GRAFT COPOLYMERS OBTAINED THEREFROM A silicone cyclic, such as hexaorganotrisiloxane is lithiated with an alkyl lithium compound followed by treatment with a diorganohalosilane to produce a polydiorganosiloxane having a terminal diorganohydridesiloxy unit. The platinum catalyzed addition of a 2-alkenyl-6- organophenol results in the production of a phenol-siloxane macromer. Conversion of the phenol-siloxane macromer to a silicone polyphenylene ether graft copolymer is effected by oxidatively coupling the 2,6-diorganophenol to the phenol- siloxane macromer.
