ABSTRACT Silicone modified polyurethane compositions having low surface energy characteristics comprise a polyurethane matrix in which 1-30% of a silicone compound is dispersed. The low surface energy of surface coatings comprised of these silicone modified polyurethanes provides environmentally safe and effective means of managing the effects of marine growth on vessels and static marine structures by the formation of a foulding release surface which enables simple and effective removal of marine organisms without damage to the surface coating. Silicone modified polyurethanes according to the invention also provide a useful alternative to polyester gel coats in fibroglass reinforced plastic boats and the like.
