SILICONE WATER BASE FIRE BARRIERS Abstract An aqueous silicone emulsion useful in forming a fire barrier consists essentially of a mixture of anionically stabilized silicone emulsion, expanded vermiculite, and fiber selected from the group consisting of ceramic fiber and aramid fiber. The trowelable composition is applied to fill cracks or openings in fire walls to seal the wall and then allowed to dry. The dried material seals the opening it occupies. Upon exposure to fire, the dried material forms a char on its surface which protects the material under the surface and maintains a seal in the wall.
