ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In combination with an offset lithographic printing press having blanket cylinder, plate cylinder with a printing plate mounted thereon, and one or more form rollers, a system for continuously preparing and supplying an ink and water mixture for printing, the system comprising: reservoir apparatus for containing and circulating a mixture of ink and dampening water; ink fountain apparatus; pump apparatus connected to the reservoir apparatus and to the ink fountain apparatus to move the ink and dampening water from the reservoir apparatus to the ink fountain apparatus; a fountain roller mounted adjacent the ink fountain apparatus to receive the ink and dampening water mixture therefrom; a hard oleophilic and hydrophobic celled metering roller mounted in positive interference therewith to receive the ink and dampening water mixture from the fountain roller and deliver it to an inking form roller; a scraping blade mounted in contact with the celled metering roller at a location causing excess ink and dampening water mixture to be returned to the reservoir apparatus, water sensor apparatus connected in line with the pump apparatus between the reservoir apparatus and the ink fountain apparatus to determine the amount of water in the ink and dampening water mixture and deliver an electrical signal indicative thereof; and apparatus responsive to the electrical signal from the water sensing apparatus into the already existing mixtures as required to replenish the amounts of each liquid being used in the printing process.
