A through-air drying paper making apparatus is provided comprising a twin- fabric forming section, a water-removing section arranged downstream of the forming section, and a web transfer device disposed between the forming section and the water-removing section. The forming section includes a forming roll, a pair of fabrics guided to travel about a portion of the circumference of the forming roll, and a headbox operable to deposit a slurry between the fabrics so as to form a paper web therebetween. Preferably, one of the fabrics in the forming section comprises a through-air drying (TAD) fabric arranged to carry the paper web through the water-removing section, while the other fabric comprises a forming wire. At the web transfer device, the paper web is separated from the forming wire and the paper web then carried on the TAD fabric through the water-removing section. The water-removing section includes at least one through-air dryer for at least partially drying the paper web. Most preferably, the forming section and the web transfer device are arranged such that the forming wire and the TAD fabric, with the paper web sandwiched therebetween, travel along a substantially straight and relatively short path between the forming roll and the web transfer device, thereby resulting in minimal directional change of the paper web after formation thereof about the forming roll and prior to separation of the paper web from the forming wire. An associated method is also provided.
L'invention concerne un appareil à fabriquer le papier à air traversant comprenant une section de formation entre deux toiles, une section de séchage située en aval de la section de formation et un dispositif de transport situé entre la section de formation et la section de séchage. La section de formation comprend un rouleau égoutteur, une paire de toiles guidées de façon à se déplacer autour d'une partie de la circonférence du rouleau égoutteur, et une caisse de tête conçue pour déposer de la pulpe entre les toiles, de façon à former une feuille de papier entre celles-ci. De préférence, une des toiles de la section de formation est une toile de séchage à air traversant conçue pour transporter la bande de papier à travers la section de séchage, l'autre toile étant une toile de formation. A hauteur du dispositif de transport, la feuille de papier est séparée de la toile de formation et transportée sur la toile de séchage à air traversant à travers la section de séchage. La section de séchage comprend au moins un séchoir à air traversant destiné à sécher la feuille de papier en partie au moins. De préférence, la section de formation et le dispositif de transport sont conçus de façon que la toile de formation et la toile de séchage à air traversant, comprenant la feuille de papier intercalée, se déplacent le long d'un chemin sensiblement droit et relativement court situé entre le rouleau égoutteur et le dispositif de transport, ce qui permet de réduire au minimum les changements de direction de la feuille de papier après sa formation autour du rouleau égoutteur et avant sa séparation de la toile de formation. L'invention concerne également un procédé associé.
