ABSTRACT The invention is an interpreter intercommunication and public address system whereby even when a language other than specified languages for the appar- atus is additionally used, simultaneous interpretation of the language into the specified languages can be done without stopping the interpretation of the speci- fied languages. The system comprises a first transmission circuit for transmit- ting an audio signal of a microphone for a speaker through a transmitter and a second transmission circuit for transmitting an audio signal at different trans- mitting frequencies through transmitters which are exclusively used for respective languages. A language spoken by the speaker is interpreted into a medium langu- age at a first booth and a group of second booths is provided where the medium language is interpreted into the respective languages. A first diode matrix consists of a plurality of transverse lines connected to a power source via a holding-releasing circuit and obverse lines which are connected respectively to interpretation instruction display lamps disposed in the first booth and the second booths. Switch means are associated with each transverse line and the obverse lines are connected to a first selector arranged corresponding to the respective booths and may be connected to the transverse lines by diode means which are selectively placed in circuit between the obverse and transverse lines. A second diode matrix comprises transverse lines which are connected to the microphone for the speaker via a control switch means and a first amplifier and which are connected to earphones disposed within the first booth and the second booths and which are further connected to the power source via the holding- releasing circuit and an original removing circuit. The second diode matrix also comprises obverse lines which are connected to the obverse lines of the first diode matrix and which may be connected to the transverse lines by diode means which are selectively placed in circuit between the obverse and transverse lines. Microphones are connected respectively to the first selector via second amplifiers and are disposed in the respective booths and a plurality of second selectors selectively switch between the second amplifiers and are connected respectively to the transverse lines of the first diode matrix and to respective microphones disposed within the booths, the first amplifier being connected to the microphone for the speaker so that the second transmission circuit may be connected thereto. Thus, the system overcomes the shortcomings of conventional simultaneous interpretation apparatus which do not conveniently lend themselves to the use of a non-specified language.
