ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a process for hydrodimerizing an olefinic nitrile, amide or ester by electrolyzing an aqueous solution of the olefinic compound and an alkali metal phosphate, borate or carbonate in a single-compartment cell with anode, corrosion being lessened by the use of a cell having an anode consisting essentially of carbon steel, there is provided the improvement of including in the aqueous solution quaternary phosphonium ions.
