In a cast linerless single cylinder or multicylinder block made of an aluminum alloy and intended for use in internal combustion engines, the aluminum matrix contains embedded silicon particles, which protrude from the sliding surface of the cylinder. In order to distinctly reduce the cost of the mechanical machining of the entire surface of the single cylinder or multicylinder blocks only the sliding surface of the cylinder is constituted by a fibrous body which contains interspersed silicon particles and infiltrated aluminum alloy.
