Single phase gels for preventing the formation of surgical adhesions are disclosed. The gels are prepared by reacting an aqueous solution of a polyanionic polysaccharide, such as hyaluronic acid or carboxymethyl cellulose, with divinyl sulfone, to form a gel, the solution is neutralized, and a solid is precipitated from the solution. The solid can be redissolved in water to form a gel having properties which can be modified to suit a particular application.
L'invention concerne des gels à phase unique permettant de prévenir la formation d'adhérences chirurgicales. Ces gels sont préparés par réaction d'une solution aqueuse de polysaccharide polyanionique, tel qu'un acide hyaluronique ou une cellulose de carbométhyle, avec un divinyl-sulfone, de façon à former un gel, la solution étant neutralisée, et un solide précipitant à partir de ladite solution. Ledit solide peut être à nouveau dissous dans l'eau de façon à former un gel possédant des propriétés pouvant être modifiées pour une application particulière.
