A surgical fastener application apparatus for applying surgical fasteners of general U-shape to body tissue is provided which includes a housing having a handle portion and a trigger mechanism, an elongated body portion extending from the housing, the elongated body portion having generally annular cross-sectional are a substantially along the length thereof and defining a longitudinal pathway therein, and a firing mechanism operatively connected to the housing and including a pair of substantially parallel push rods positioned within the longitudinal pathway of the elongated body portion, the firing mechanism being capable of driving a surgical fastener inserted in a distal end portion of elongated body portion to the body tissue in response to operation of the trigger mechanism.
L'invention concerne un appareil d'application d'un élément de fixation chirurgical destiné à appliquer ces éléments généralement en forme de U à des tissus humains. Cet appareil comprend un boîtier muni d'un manche et d'un mécanisme de détente, un corps oblong s'étendant à partie du boîtier, ce corps oblong présentant généralement une section transversale annulaire située sensiblement le long dudit corps dans laquelle est ménagé un passage longitudinal, et un mécanisme de déclenchement relié de façon fonctionnelle au boîtier et comprenant une paire de tiges de poussée sensiblement parallèles positionnée à l'intérieur du passage longitudinal du corps oblong, le mécanisme de déclenchement étant en mesure d'actionner l'élément de fixation chirurgical introduit dans une extrémité distale du corps oblong vers les tissus humains en réponse à l'actionnement du mécanisme de détente.
