The present invention concerns large spherical polymer particles with a narrow size distribution and a procedure for producing such particles. The procedure is characterised in that a seed polymerisation is performed in which the start particles have a very high ability to absorb new monomer so that finished particles are obtained after only one stage of polymerisation even if the finished particles are to be as large as in the range 10 to 100 µm. The procedure is also characterised in that, when porous particles are produced, a porous structure can be formed in which the fraction of micropores is insignificant. Another characteristic feature of the procedure is that the size distribution of the finished particles is narrow and in some cases narrower than in the start particles.
L'invention concerne des particules polymères sphériques de dimensions importantes à distribution de taille étroite et un procédé de préparation de ces particules. Le procédé de l'invention est caractérisé en ce que l'on effectue la polymérisation à germe dans laquelle les particules de départ possèdent une capacité très élevée d'absorption de nouveaux monomères; de cette manière, les particules finies sont obtenues après un seul stade de polymérisation, même si les particules finies doivent avoir une taille aussi importante que 10 à 100 µm. Le procédé de l'invention est aussi caractérisé en ce que lors de la fabrication d'articles poreux on peut former une structure poreuse dans laquelle la fraction des micropores est insignifiante. Une autre particularité caractéristique du procédé consiste en une distribution étroite de la taille des particules finies; elle est parfois plus étroite que dans les particules de départ.
