ABSTRACT Labeling protein with a radioisotope by placing a reagent which catalyzes the coupling of the radioisotope to protein into a sealable reaction vessel, in which the reagents can be intro- duced and withdrawn, sealing the vessel; introducing into the vessel the radioisotope and a buffer solution of the protein to be labeled; incubating the resulting reaction mixture under conditions which permit the labeling of the protein; introducing a resin which adsorbs the radioisotope which is not bound to protein into the vial; withdrawing the resin and the reaction mixture; and separating the resin and the protein. This method is simple, efficient, and reproducible and it minimized the safety hazards to persons performing the radio- labeling.
