The invention concerns a sintered metal part which has a densified surface and sintered density of at least 7.35 g/cm3 and a core structure distinguished by a pore structure wherein at least 50% of the pore area in a cross section consists of pores having a pore area of at least 100 µm2 obtained by single pressing to at least 7.35 g/cm3 and single sintering of a mixture of a coarse iron or iron-based powder and optional additives.
