ABSTRACT A sintered zirconia article with improved resistance to thermal shock is obtained by mixing zirconia powder with 10 to 50% by weight of partially stabilized zirconia powder, sintering the mixture and pulverizing it with 90 to 50% by weight of a zirconia powder and a stabilizing agent, shaping the resulting mixture, sintering the shaped article, and heat treating it at 1200 to 1500°C to obtain a sintered zirconia article containing not more than 70% cubic phase crystals, with 5 to 40% by weight of particles of 1 to 30% diameter and 95 to 60% by weight of 30 to 200µ diameter.
