In an ice skate blades typically have parallel sides and constant width. In the present invention many types of configurations can be used. Shoulders can be molded, forged or cast as an integral part of the blade runner. These improve the strength of the blade when placed in the blade holder. The present invention also contemplates a tapered skating portion of the blade. In addition, the blade may be thinner in the middle and thicker at the toe and heel portions of the blade runner.
