ABSTRACT A skate sharpening automate comprises a skate sharpening mechanism located inside a protective cover (1). A skate loading devise (2) is pivotally mounted in an opening (9) in the protective cover (1), so that it can be pivoted between a loading position, in which the skate (3) is on the outside of the protective cover (1). The skate loading device comprises gripping means (12, 15) for releasable gripping at least one skate (3) to be sharpened, first obturation means (11a) which substantially close said opening (9) in the skate loading position, and second obturation means (11b) which substantially close said opening (9) in the starting position for sharpening of the skate.
