A B S T R A C T A safety ski binding particularly adapted to retain the toe of a ski boot upon a ski which comprises a housing retained in an operative position by an adjustably spring loaded plunger, but displaceable to either side to release the ski boot when an excessive moment is applied thereto, as when the skier suffers a fall. The toe of the ski boot is held by a retainer pivoted in the housing on a horizontal axis and held by a spring-loaded detent which can be released when a releasing moment of sufficient magnitude is applied thereto. Upward pivotal movement of the retainer can also be effected through a manually operative lever.
