A system for towing skiers (13) up shallow slopes, comprising a continuously moving rope (10) with a towing run (14) resting on and sliding along the surface (15) of the snow, and a return run (19) held in a raised position by line towers (26). A safety device (36) stops the system should a skier fail to let go of the towing run (14) at the right time in the arrival area.
