ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved automatic slack adjuster (10) for maintaining the predetermined running clearance in a brake such as cam actuated brake is provided with means to selectively adjust the predetermined running clearance between the brake friction surfaces (18-20). The running clearance in the brake is a function of total lost motion between the force transmitting member (24) and the brake actuating member, or cam (14), and the means for selectively adjusting the running clearance comprises a set screw (206) which will selectively variably extend into a bore (202) to vary the effective clearance between bore (202) and a pivot pin (82) thereby varying the lost motion between the yoke (26) and the cam (14).
