ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A runner system for receiving and conveying molten slag at the end of an iron pour includes a permanent trough-like construction in a pouring floor in which monolithic side wall panels are replaceably positioned together with replaceable monolithic bottom sections between the side wall panels to form the runner system capable of resisting the increased corrosive properties of slag and having a predetermined life. The side wall panels and bottom sections are formed of re- fractory materials that react with a binder selected from either phosphoric acid or sodium silicate. -2-
