A process for coating the walls of a steelmaking vessel with slag between heats to protect the refractory liming of the vessel uses coolant in the form of recycled slag as a substitute for fluxes such as lime and dolime to cool and thicken slags which are otherwise too fluid to produce an acceptable slag coat.

Procédé d'application d'un revêtement sur les parois d'un récipient servant à l'élaboration de l'acier. Le procédé consiste à utiliser du laitier entre les coulées pour protéger le garnissage réfractaire. Du laitier recyclé est utilisé comme agent de refroidissement pour remplacer des flux comme la chaux ou la dolomite servant à refroidir ou à épaissir le laitier qui, autrement, serait trop fluide pour produire un revêtement acceptable.
