QUENCH CAR ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A car for receiving, transporting and quenching incandescent coke includes a series of normally closed slats covering the top of the car; they are adapted to open at the coke guide to receive coke. A stationary cam located on or near the coke guide may actuate levers as the car moves, to open the slats directly in front of the coke guide; as the car moves further along, the cam releases the levers and the slats close to minimize pollution of the air from coke combus- tion. The slats are also opened by a cam track in the quench tower.
