ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A sleeve for blowing solid material into a molten metal, particularly molten steel, through the wall of a ladle containing the molten metal has a front section which, in use, is directed towards the molten metal, comprising an insulating refractory material with a lower thermal conductivity than that of the material of the remainder of the sleeve. Solidification of the melt in the sleeve thus occurs preferentially away from its front end.
