Abstract of the Disclosure The specification describes a slide gate for a ladle comprising a slide frame in a housing. The slide frame contains a slide plate which can be pressed against a head plate above it by springs that are supported by the slide frame. The housing is attached to the ladle bottom by a hinge on one side and on the opposite side by a catch. The housing is equipped with tensioning devices on the sides parallel to the moving direction of the slide frame so that the housing can be moved toward the ladle bottom by compres- sing the springs of the slide frame. Tensioning device consists of levers movable in the sliding direction of the slide frame. The levers are movable by the slide frame through the motion of the slide frame in one direction into the stress position and through the motion of the slide frame in the opposite direction in the unstressed position. A follower device is located between the slide frame and the levers. The follower device transmits the forces alternately only in one or the other direction from the slide frame to the levers. The follower device is lockable in the stress position.
