ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A plug door installation within a vehicle side wall opening, especially for train cars and buses, comprising a door panel having a guide member at its upper end, a first guiding rail extending along the side wall of the vehicle for guiding the guide member of the door panel, a drive cylinder, the piston rod of which is connected to the door panel through two first swinging arms and two second swinging arms each linked with a respective arm and with the door panel, one arm at an upper part and one at a lower part thereof, for exerting a pushing force on the door panel substantially per- pendicular to the plane of the door panel when such is in closed position, characterized in that in order to translate the pushing force to a sliding movement of the door panel along the side wall of the vehicle, the second arm acting on the upper part of the door panel is provided with a fixed extension extending beyond a link with the respective first arm and being guided by guide member in a second guiding rail located adjacent the upper end of the door panel and extending generally in a common plane with the side wall, and in that in order to provide coordinated movement of the upper end of the door panel to the lower end thereof, the second arms are connected with each other by means of a rigid rod extending along the door panel.
