ABSTRACT The plate for a sliding gate valve having at least one flow passage comprising a support body in which a recess is formed. A plate component of different material is received in the recess and is secured against movement in the plane of the plate but may be readily removed. The plate component affords at least part of the sealing surface which is adapted to slide relative to and form a seal with the other plate of the valve.
