The present invention relates to a container 1 adapted to contain one or more articles 4, notably a case for a compact disc, which container 1 has access means 2 whereby the article(s) 4 can be inserted into or removed from the container 1, the container 1 being provided with a detent mechanism 10 adapted to retain the article 4, within the container 1, which detent mechanism comprises: a. ~a sole plate member 5 located adjacent the interior of one wall of the container 1 and adapted to move axially substantially parallel to the plane of that wall and to bear against a face of the article 4 which is to be inserted into or removed from the container 1 through said access means 2; b. a biassed member 20 adapted to move between an operative position, at which the member 20 engages the sole plate member 5 so as to retain it against axial movement, and an inoperative position, at which the biassed member 20 permits axial movement of the sole plate member 5; and c. a stop member 10, which can be provided by the biassed member 20 or by a stop member 10 carried by the sole plate member 5, which stop member 20 or l0 is adapted to engage said article 4 and to retain said article 4 within the container 1 when said biassed member 20 engages the sole plate member 5 in its operative position. The invention also provides a detent mechanism suitable for use with the container.
