-10- FLIP LOCK SEATING ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A locking seat used in mass transportation seating. The locking seat is adapted to slide along a floor rail and a wall rail. By sliding the seat along the floor rail and the wall rail the distance between seats can be adjusted to accommodate the wheelchair of wheelchair user. The locking seat includes a seat sub-frame and first and second locking devices attached in the sub-frame. The first locking device is adapted to lockingly engage the first rail and the second locking device is adapted to lockingly engage the second rail. A frame member is attached to the sub frame and adapted to move between first and second positions. When the movable members is in the first position, the first and second locking devices are disengaged from the first and second rails respectively thereby allowing the locking seat to slide along the first and second rails. When the movable frame member is moved into a second position it contacts and preloads the first and second locking devices thereby causing the first and second rails respectively thereby preloading said first and second locking devices for locking engagement with their respective rails when said seat is thereafter moved along said rails.
