A method for machining an angularly disposed array of parallel longitudinally extending slots in a bore of a component, the method comprising the steps of: gripping said component (1) in a gripping means of a workholding device (2) mounted to a workholding spindle (3) indexable about a first axis; cutting said array of slots in said bore by a series of progressively deeper cutting strokes of a cutting tool (5), said tool mounted to a cutting spindle (7) rotatable about a second axis (8) substantially at right angles to and offset from said first axis; and the cutting of each slot followed by indexation of said workholding spindle (3); and during the cutting of at least one of said slots, relative movement between the component (1) and second axis (8) takes place due to movement of the component (1) along the first axis or movement of the second axis in a direction substantially parallel to said first axis or both. A one piece sleeve (34) for a rotary valve (31), the sleeve (34) comprising an array of inlet (26) and return (27) slots formed in the bore of the sleeve, the inlet slots (26) being stopped short of the axial extremities of the bore, the return slots (27) extending to one extremity of the bore providing an exit area for return oil when the sleeve is installed in the rotary valve, characterised in that at least one said return slot is also extended to the other axial extremity of the sleeve bore providing an entry area (24) for leakage oil when the sleeve is installed in the rotary valve, the entry area (24) provided for leakage oil being substantially smaller than the exit area provided for return oil.
Procédé permettant d'usiner un ensemble angulaire de fentes parallèles à extension longitudinale dans l'alésage d'une pièce, qui consiste à fixer ladite pièce (1) dans un moyen de serrage d'un dispositif (2) porte-pièce monté sur une broche (3) porte-pièce réglable autour d'un premier axe, à couper ledit ensemble de fentes dans ledit alésage grâce à une série de traits de coupe de plus en plus profonds d'un outil de coupe (5), ledit outil étant monté sur une broche de coupe (7) rotative autour d'un second axe (8) à des angles droits et décalée par rapport au premier axe, la coupe de chaque fente étant suivie par la rotation de la broche porte-pièce (3). Pendant la coupe d'au moins une desdites fentes, le mouvement relatif entre la pièce (1) et le second axe (8) a lieu en raison du mouvement de la pièce (1) le long du premier axe ou du mouvement du second axe dans une direction sensiblement parallèle au premier axe ou les deux. La présente invention concerne en outre une douille (34) d'une seule pièce pour une vanne rotative (31), ladite douille (34) comportant un ensemble de fentes d'arrivée (26) et de retour (27) formées dans l'alésage de la douille, les fentes d'arrivée (26) étant stoppées peu avant les extrémités axiales de l'alésage, les fentes de retour (27) s'étendant vers une extrémité de l'alésage et fournissant une zone de sortie pour l'huile de retour lorsque la douille est installée dans la vanne rotative. Ladite vanne est caractérisée par le fait qu'au moins une des fentes de retour s'étend également jusqu'à l'autre extrémité axiale de l'alésage de douille, fournissant ainsi une zone d'entrée (24) pour l'huile de fuite lorsque la douille est installée dans la vanne rotative, la zone d'entrée (24) ménagée pour l'huile de fuite étant bien plus petite que la zone de sortie ménagée pour l'huile de retour.
