Disclosed is a method of treating an individual who abuses cocaine by administering to the individual a therapeutically effective amount of an N,N- dialkyl 3-phenyl-1-indamine or a mixture of N,N-dialkyl 3-phenyl-1-indamines. Also disclosed is a method of treating an individual with Parkinson's disease or an individual with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder by administering to the individual a therapeutically effective amount of an N,N- dialkyl 3-phenyl-1-indamine or a mixture of N,N-dialkyl 3-phenyl-1-indamines. Also disclosed are novel N,N-dialkyl 3-phenyl-1-indamines and N-(tert-butyl) 3- phenyl-1-indamines.
