01386-241 RDF:jy ABSTRACT The invention relates to a monitoring means for a sludge pump of the type having at least a material cylinder, a displacing piston, a hydraulic displacing piston drive for supplying kinetic energy during a working cycle including a pumping stroke and a filling stroke, and valves connecting the material cylinder with an outlet during the pumping stroke and with an inlet during the filling stroke. The monitoring means determines the volume of sludge being pumped during the pumping stroke from the time signal representing the point in time when the outlet valve opens and sludge begins to flow from the material cylinder into the delivery pipe.
