Abstract A small arm having a barrel with a transverse bore and a detachable silencer A small arm having a barrel (11) with at least one trans- verse bore (14) and a detachable silencer (62) including an expansion chamber (58) communicating with the transverse bore, comprising selectively operable closure means (34) arranged in the path of the combustion gases between the interior of the barrel and the expansion chamber is characterized by an arrangement in which the closure means (34) is prevented from opening or remaining in the open position when the silencer (62) is not in place. Thus, any risk of injury to the shooter is excluded. (Fig. 2)
