In this invention, the spatial arrangement of the divert and merge points of the accumulation spirals in conjunction with a diverter device greatly enhances the accumulation capacity of the standard spirals by 1) allowing the spiral incline and decline set to remain continuously in motion, and through product sensing allow voids between products to be filled, without product to product contact. 2) allow width of the spiral to hold two products side by side (were width of product permits) effectively doubling the holding capacity of the spiral conveyance.
