ABSTRACT A smokeless ashtray with controlled combustion chambers comprising a body having a top surface and a bottom surface. An ash collecting cavity integrated with an ashtray wall and the top surface. A plurality of controlled combustion chambers integrated with the top surface, each having a curved controlled combustion chamber surface, a wedge tip surface with a wedge groove located on the curved controlled combustion chamber surface, and a track having a notch in the ashtray wall. The new feature is the controlled combustion chamber which allows cigarette burning and smoldering rate to be variably controlled by sliding a burning tip of a cigarette in and out of the controlled combustion chamber. Additional new feature is the use of the accumulating gaseous combustion by-products heavier than air in the controlled combustion chamber to displace air and oxygen around the cigarette inhibiting combustion, smoke, and to thermally insulate the burning tip from the surroundings prolonging the lit but not smoking condition; whereby, the incomplete combustion by-products generated during free or controlled burning of the cigarette as a result of low combustion temperature are significantly reduced to a minimum. The controlled combustion chamber is designed to extinguish the cigarette in an average time it takes a similar cigarette to burn itself out freely in the air.
