A smoking article comprising a rod of smoking material and a filter portion, said filter portion including means for collecting particulate matter in the smoke from the rod of smoking material in a collection zone, and means for heating said collection zone to release the semivolatile compounds whilst allowing the involatiles to be retained in the filter.
