ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A smoking material in film form comprising a film- forming binder, inorganic filler and a smectite, perticularly a bentonite, which smectite is finely dispersed throughout the material. Fine dispersion is achieved by high energy input during mixing with water, and results in improved ash coherence and greater combustion retardance by the smectite. The materials are characterised by relatively low air porosity.
