ABSTRACT A slide switch having snap action and teaseproof features that are provided by molded plastic spring detent means attached to the contact carrier of the switch. The spring detent means includes a thin, resilient plastic band around the contact carrier and having long side legs with respective outwardly extending detents thereon. These detents operatively engage detents in the switch housing. A thin, resilient plastic strap or spring extends between the ends of said plastic band and has an upwardly protruding V-shape cam follower. The cam follower slidingly engages a V-shaped notch or cam on the bottom surface of the switch actuator. Normally the cam follower is centered in the V-shaped notch. There is relative movement between the actuator and contact carrier for a short distance while the detent and spring of the spring detent means store energy. At some predetermined position the stored energy is suffi- cient to snap the contact carrier past the detent on the housing. The detents and the V-shaped cam and cam follower provide the teaseproof feature.
